Soul Sistah V, finished and framed 3D hair art original

Soul Sistah V: The Painting My Community Helped Finish

I started this piece over a year ago. Then I set it aside.

That happens more than people probably realize. Not every piece gets finished in one sitting, or even one season. Soul Sistah V sat unfinished for a long time before I picked it back up a few months ago.

Picking It Back Up

When I returned to it, I didn't want to make every decision on my own this time. So I brought my audience into it. I posted the piece and asked which fabric design should finish it.

Letting the Community Decide

The response took a while to fully count. Votes came in across posts, comments, messages, and it took time to actually tally everything up properly. But once I did, there was a clear winner, and that's the fabric design you see on this piece now.

There's something different about finishing a piece this way. It's still entirely mine, my hands, my technique, my hair and fabric work. But the final decision on this one detail came from the people who follow this work and show up for it. That matters to me.

Finished and Framed

Soul Sistah V is done now. Framed, complete, and honestly, I'm really happy with how it came out. A piece that sat unfinished for over a year finally has a home, and it got there with input from the community that's been with me through all of it.

This is a one-of-a-kind original. Once it's collected, there won't be another one exactly like it.

FAQ

Why did it take so long to finish this piece?
I started it over a year ago and set it aside. Not every piece gets finished right away, sometimes a painting sits until the timing is right to come back to it.

How did the community get involved?
I asked my social media audience to vote on the fabric design that would finish the piece. It took a while to fully count the votes, but the winning design is what you see on the finished painting.

Is this a one-of-a-kind piece?
Yes. This is an original 3D hair art painting, finished with real synthetic hair, fabric, and jewelry. Once it's collected, it's gone.
